Brian was born in Gladwin, Michigan and moved to Traverse City at the age of 9. Brian attended school at Central Grade School, Junior High School and Traverse City Central High School (there was only one High School then) and continued his education at Northwestern Michigan College. After earning his Associates Degree from NMC Brian continued his education at Ferris State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business as well as a Master of Science degree in Information System Management. He also attended Eastern Michigan University where he earned a Master of Liberal Studies Degree in Police Administration and is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Education Ed.D. program at Ferris State University. Brian recently retired from the Traverse City Police Department where he served for 27 years with the last 5 years in the rank of Captain of Police. Brian enjoys hunting, fishing, construction projects and traveling with his family. Brian and his wife Cara have two daughters.
