The show is named for the late NMC Automotive instructor Mike McIntosh, who retired in 2004 after 34 years of service. McIntosh organized the first car show for the Automotive Program in 2004.
Owners are invited to enter their classic cars, 4X4s, dragsters, sports cars, modified late models, motorcycles and more. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle. Trophies are awarded for best of show in each class. Admission free and the public is invited for food, a silent auction — including program vehicles — and door prizes for entrants. Proceeds benefit NMC’s Automotive Program. Sponsors include Canteen Services.
Student projects and vehicles are displayed in the Automotive Technology facility. The Michigan Community Blood Center is also on site with its blood bus for those eligible and willing to donate.
Show participants can register their classic car, 4X4, dragster, sports car, modified late model, motorcycle or other classic vehicle on-site beginning at 8 a.m. the day of the event.

It is awesome to be able to work where you go to school in a fun atmosphere, you are instantly connected to the many resources on campus, it looks great on a resume, but most importantly it is a safe environment to grow professionally with people who really believe in investing in you.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking responsible, reliable, positive-minded NMC students to volunteer as Big Brothers or Big Sisters in the local school-based mentoring programs. Guys: you’re ESPECIALLY needed, as the boys on our waitlists for a mentor are ever-increasing.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has programs conveniently located at Traverse Heights Elementary, Central Grade School, and Eastern Elementary.
Being a Big is simple, really. Just by spending your lunch hour with a child once each week for at least one school year, you can make a difference. And it’s not all about helping the child study. Play a game, shoot some hoops in the gym or on the playground, do a puzzle, read together, eat lunch and chat – your best gift is your time and
simply being yourself.
Here’s some information about health insurance offered to students at Northwestern Michigan College.
As you may know, Health Care Reform has created great changes in the insurance industry in the past couple of years. Student health insurance is undergoing those changes beginning this year. The policy now covers you for what is called “essential services” which includes preventive care and routine care. The policy also covers your prescriptions up to the policy maximum.
The plan has changed and we encourage you to review it to see if the policy will meet your needs. You can view the policy at www.sas-mn.com – under COLLEGE click on FIND MY SCHOOL and follow the link to Northwestern Michigan College. You can view the new policy under “2012-2013 brochure”.
You may call Candy Mears at 866-293-6473 to ask any questions regarding the policy.
The next episode of the History Channel series Great Lake Warriors, features footage provided by NMC’s Great Lakes Water Studies Institute of the Lauren Castle, a tugboat that sunk in West Grand Traverse Bay south of Sutton’s Bay on November 5, 1980.
While conducting hydrographic surveys of East and West Grand Traverse Bay in 2009, the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute discovered what they believed to be the Lauren Castle, resting upgright on the floor of West Grand Traverse Bay. While initial attempts to conduct a video investigation of the Lauren Castle were unsuccessful, the Water Studies Institute returned in October, 2010 with a remotely operated vehicle to successfully capture video of the shipwreck. Portions of that video air in this week’s episode.
Great Lake Warriors episode four, “Make or Break” premieres at 10 pm, Thursday, August 9, and re-airs:
