On Thursday, March 15 at 2 pm, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission will hold a regular business meeting at the Hagerty Center, Room B, on the Great Lakes Campus of Northwestern Michigan College, 735 Front Street in Traverse City.
Following the business meeting, a public forum will be co-hosted by Northwestern Michigan College and the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. The forum will be held in the same room, from 4 to 7 pm. It is the fifth in a series of public forums held in Michigan on bullying, its effects on victims, bystanders, families, workers and educators.
Michael Zelley, commission chair, said, “As we’ve traveled the state and learned more about bullying and harassment and its life-changing long-term effects, the commission has become even more committed to hearing people’s stories and using what we learn to foster change in Michigan.” The Commission and attendees will hear from invited speakers and the public.
Anyone who has had an experience with bullying, is welcome to testify at the hearing. Written testimony may be e-mailed to millerj31@Michigan.gov by March 13. Those who wish to give verbal testimony may send a note to that email address. In addition to these events, a community-based conference on bullying prevention will take place at the Hagerty Center, Friday, March 16.
Visit http://www.thirdlevel.org to learn more, and to register. The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, please visit www.michigan.gov/mdcr.

From February 29–March 31, Northwestern Michigan College is conducting an online survey about what you watch on TV, what you listen to on the radio, what you read in print or online, and the ways you prefer to be contacted with new information. The survey instructions say that it takes 15-20 minutes to complete, but smart people like you will probably finish it in 10 minutes or so. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a $150 Amazon.com gift card. Not bad for 10 minutes of work, right?
So what is NMC going to do with the information?
Well, we’re not going to share it with other colleges or businesses or anybody else. So you don’t have to worry about filling out this survey and getting a bunch of junk mail or e-mails because of it. What we are going to use it for is to do a better job of reaching people like you. It will help us learn more about what you watch and where you hang out and if you’d rather receive e-mails or texts or stuff in the mail.
How many times can I take the survey?
You can take it as many times as you want, but the survey’s pretty smart, so no matter how many times you take it, you’re only going to be entered to win the gift card once.
What if part of the survey doesn’t apply to me?
You don’t have to answer every question, but you do have to make it to the end of the survey to be entered to win. So if there is a question that doesn’t apply to you, you can just move on to the next one.
Where do I go to take the survey?
Just follow this link and use michigan as the password. It’s just that easy.
So thanks in advance for taking the survey, and good luck on winning the gift card!
