Northwestern Michigan College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (Alpha Rho Pi) was honored with several awards at the 94th Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Nashville, Saturday night.

NMC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter was honored as one of the top 28 chapters in the world.

NMC student MacKenzie Campbell (Traverse City West graduate) was named a Distinguished Member.

Last chance to take a survey, and win an Amazon gift card

This week is your last chance to take an online survey about what you watch on TV, what you listen to on the radio, what you read in print or online, and the ways you prefer to be contacted with new information. The survey instructions say that it takes 15-20 minutes to complete, but smart people like you will probably finish it in 10 minutes or so. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a $150 Amazon.com gift card. Not bad for 10 minutes of work.

We extended the survey time for a few days, and the company helping us with the survey addressed a problem that timed a few people out of the survey while they were taking it.  So if that happened to you, give it one more shot and give yourself another chance to win the gift card.

You can take the survey here: http://www.interactresearch.org/mp/126/
And the password is: michigan

So thanks in advance for taking the survey, and good luck on winning the gift card!

Be Part of the “It Gets Better Project”

The It Gets Better Project is a response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, the project’s creators wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better.

NMC Student Life and NMC Pride is inviting students, faculty and staff to participate in an It Gets Better video. The video will take place in the Student Life Office, lower level of West Hall, and Emily Magner will be project editor. Anyone interested can contact Stephen Krygier at skrygier@nmc.edu or call 231-709-0971 to set  a taping appointment.

ItGetsBetter.org, the official web site where the video will be posted, and on select NMC web pages, is a place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bi, or trans can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future.  It’s a place where straight allies can visit and support their friends and family members.  It’s a place where people can share their stories, take the It Gets Better Project pledge and watch videos of love and support.

Student Life and NMC Pride is looking for anyone in support of the LGBT community and who is willing to share their own personal stories.

Please call Emily Magner for more information,  995-1118.

Still time to take a survey and win $150 from Amazon.

Northwestern Michigan College is conducting an online survey about what you watch on TV, what you listen to on the radio, what you read in print or online, and the ways you prefer to be contacted with new information. The survey instructions say that it takes 15-20 minutes to complete, but smart people like you will probably finish it in 10 minutes or so. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a $150 Amazon.com gift card. Not bad for 10 minutes of work, right?

So what is NMC going to do with the information?
Well, we’re not going to share it with other colleges or businesses or anybody else. So you don’t have to worry about filling out this survey and getting a bunch of junk mail or e-mails because of it. What we are going to use it for is to do a better job of reaching people like you. It will help us learn more about what you watch and where you hang out and if you’d rather receive e-mails or texts or stuff in the mail.

How many times can I take the survey?
You can take it as many times as you want, but the survey’s pretty smart, so no matter how many times you take it, you’re only going to be entered to win the gift card once.

What if part of the survey doesn’t apply to me?
You don’t have to answer every question, but you do have to make it to the end of the survey to be entered to win. So if there is a question that doesn’t apply to you, you can just move on to the next one.

Where do I go to take the survey?
Just follow this link and use michigan as the password. It’s just that easy.

So thanks in advance for taking the survey, and good luck on winning the gift card!
