Paul was born and raised in northern Michigan and lived in Northport for most of his school years. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids where he met his wife, Diane, who is a self-employed graphic designer with Page 9 Design. Paul received his Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology in 1997. He has worked for a variety of local human service agencies as well as Munson Healthcare providing social work and counseling services for over 20 years. Paul enjoys the great outdoors, reading, international travel, finding the best indie folk/rock music available, and, his newest pursuit, curling. He serves as the Membership Coordinator for the now one-year-old TC Curling Club. (more…)

Vicky was born in AZ but, has lived in Michigan from an early age on. She is married with five children and six grandchildren. Vicky began her nursing career many years ago at NMC, where she earned her LPN degree. After working 15 years, she returned to school to earn her ADN.  She completed her MSN this past December. Vicky has worked at Munson Medical Center for 31 years with her last six years in oncology. Her hobbies include reading, redesign and boating. (more…)

Janine was born and raised in Michigan, where she met her husband, Mark. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations/Business Management from Madonna University. She retired from her previous position as a District Court Administrator and relocated to Grand Traverse County.  Janine enjoys camping, snowmobiling, and travelling.

Hughes, MartinMarty Hughes joined NMC as the Chief Engineer at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy on April 6, 2015. He can be reached at (231) 995-3191 or mhughes@nmc.edu.

Marty was born and raised in upstate New York.  After earning his bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Lawrence University he worked in commercial banking.  He left that field to attend Great Lakes Maritime Academy.  Marty is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Great Lakes Mate, First Class Pilot, and Chief Engineer.  He is also currently a strategic sealift officer in the navy reserve with the rank of captain.  Marty and his wife Barb have three adult children. Betsy Coffia joined NMC as the Director of Alumni Relations on March 23, 2015. She can be reached at (231) 995-2825 or bcoffia@nmc.edu.

 
Betsy is a proud 2005 NMC graduate, and all three of her siblings also attended NMC. Betsy has been a northern Michigan resident since early childhood; some of her favorite memories are of riding her bike to Torch Lake to go swimming in the summertime. She holds a BSW from Ferris State University. Betsy is a former Michigan Press Association Award winning news editor, photographer and reporter for UpNorth Publications and Morningstar Publications. Betsy and her partner Brendan O’Donnel, a tall ship captain, are beginner beekeepers. Betsy enjoys long distance hiking, growing her own food and canoeing on the Manistee River.

Paris began her career in fundraising at Chicago-based non-profits, and comes to us most recently from the University of Michigan where she specialized in Annual Giving. Kavran, ChristopherChristopher Kavran joined NMC as the Lead Accounting Assistant on February 10, 2015. He can be reached at (231) 995-2320 or ckavran@nmc.edu.

Chris was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.  He met his wife, Jennifer, while they were both finishing their Bachelors’ degrees at Eastern Michigan University (BBA in Accounting for Chris.)  They moved to Traverse City in 2005 after Jennifer completed her Veterinary studies at Michigan State University. Chris worked in the accounting departments for health care, automotive, child care, and most recently financial institutions.  His position for the last eight and a half years was with 4Front Credit Union (formerly Members Credit Union) before joining the college.  Chris enjoy reading, music, and movies in his free time.  He stays active by kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, and practicing Judo here at NMC.  In addition, he also volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan.
