Scott Herzberg, our Military Point of Contact, will be leaving the college after 25 years of service to our students.
We will be offering a farewell celebration to Scott on Monday, Nov. 8 from 2–4 p.m. in the atrium of the Biederman Building on NMC’s main campus. Please stop by to offer your farewells and thanks to Scott for his many years of service.
Scott’s last day will be Tuesday, Nov. 9. After that day, the point of contact will be NMC’s Certifying Official, Julie Hansen. She can be reached via phone at (231) 995-1057 and via email at jhansen@nmc.edu.

Join the NMC community on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in a guided tour of downtown Traverse City from the perspective of people experiencing homelessness and the providers who serve them. The walk starts at NMC’s Great Lakes Campus parking lot.
Ryan Hannon, Goodwill Industries, leads the way with stops along the downtown route, highlighting stories both tragic and triumphant. We will hear from service providers, police officers and elected officials about their concerns and hopes for the future.
This experience is associated to an interdisciplinary study of these issues by sociology, social work and communications students.

The NMC Jazz Lab Band will present a swinging concert of big band music in conjunction with the Jeff Haas Trio featuring Laurie Sears at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Grand Traverse Circuit, 225 W. 14th St. in Traverse City.

Join the NMC Chamber Singers and NMC Grand Traverse Chorale for their fall performance, and their return to the concert stage Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m., in the Milliken Auditorium. The concert will feature music that celebrates singing and the power of music and will include guest instrumentalists and soloists. The program will include music by Beethoven, René Clausen, Jeffrey Cobb, Eleanor Daley, Dan Forrest, Daniel Gawthrop, Moses Hogan, and Andrea Ramsey.

Pizza with the President will be held at the Hawk Owl Café in the West Hall Innovation Center on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from noon to 1 p.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. EDT the International Affairs Forum at Northwestern Michigan College will connect remotely with Vanessa Acker, political unit chief of the U.S. State Department Office of Russian Affairs to discuss the current state of US-Russian relations and strategies going forward.
The event will be moderated in person by Tracy N. Busch, PhD, Associate Professor of History, Ferris State University. Dr. Busch holds a Doctorate of Russian and European History from Georgetown University.
This event will be held in person at the Dennos Museum Center Milliken Auditorium and via livestream. IAF events are free to current students and educators and open to the general public, $15 at the door. Capacity is limited to 170 people inside the auditorium. Masks are required of all attendees.

The Long Night Against Procrastination returns with a first-ever midterms edition!
Come to the NMC Library in the West Hall Innovation Center Sunday, Oct. 17 to get the fuel and fortification you need to crush your midterm exams and papers. The event will run from 5 p.m. to midnight.
We’ll have snacks and hot drinks, and NMC’s Student Success Coaches will be running a build-your-own style pancake bar (!) from 6–8 p.m.
Come for the snacks and solidarity, stay for the support. Peer study groups, student success coaches, Writing and Reading Center staff, and librarians will all be on hand to help you power through the midterm crunch.
Decorate your car, get in costume, and hand out candy! Prizes for best decorations!

Wondering what exactly the Rotaract Club is? Rotary International has some incredible causes that they focus on, such as supporting education and protecting the environment—two very significant interests for NMC and within the Northern Michigan region.
The purpose of Rotaract Clubs is to bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.
