The Technology Help Desk and Information Security are hosting SCARy: a cybersecurity learning experience on Wednesday, February 8 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center in rooms 106/107.

International Affairs Forum | India: Asia’s New Superpower

Northwestern Michigan College’s International Affairs Forum continues Thursday, February 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the Milliken Auditorium at the Dennos Museum Center. Experts will explore India’s economic evolution, domestic politics, and foreign policy in relation to the U.S., China and more. Guests will take questions from both in-person and online audiences. Jack Segal International Affairs Forum

The International Affairs Forum at Northwestern Michigan College presents a discussion with Jack Segal, a retired senior US diplomat and former co-chair of the International Affairs Forum who served at the US Embassy in Israel as Counselor for Political/Military Affairs during the first Intifada and the Gulf War. Segal will discuss Israel’s new coalition government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Far-right factions of the new coalition threaten to destabilize Israel, Palestine and the greater region. Gala to Give

Put on your glad rags and join this Roaring 20s extravaganza! On Friday, January 27, the Student Success Ambassador team will be hosting Gala to Give — a networking event to connect students with alumni, local businesses, and the greater Traverse City community. The event will be held from 7–10 p.m. at The Hagerty Center on NMC’s Great Lakes Campus.

The event will celebrate NMC’s connections with the community while benefiting the College for Kids scholarship fund so that all kids in our community might have the opportunity to experience these great programs.

The night will be filled with live music, mocktails, hors d’oeuvres and desserts with raffle prize drawings throughout the evening.

The Dennos Museum is hosting Observing with NASA – Family Day on Saturday, December 3. Enjoy free admission to the museum and make your own astronomical images using the Observing with NASA Kiosk in the Discovery Gallery.

At 1 p.m. join the Astronomical Society to make a comet and learn about moon phases.

At 2 p.m. Jerry Dobek, head of the Astronomy and Science Departments at Northwestern Michigan College, will lead a presentation on the Observing With NASA Kiosk and the science behind the imaging used by the Hubble Telescope in the MIlliken Auditorium.

About Jerry Dobek: Dr. Jerry Dobek is a professional astrophysicist and faculty instructor at Northwestern Michigan College. His research interests are in variable stars and dark material, which he conducts from his own observatory north of Traverse City, Michigan. Jerry is also the site coordinator / site director for Project ASTRO and Project Family ASTRO for the Michigan and Upper Wisconsin sites, and serves as the regional Solar System Ambassador for NASA / JPL. Jerry is a founding member of and the regional representative for the International Dark-Sky Association and has been instrumental in writing lighting ordinances for townships and counties in Michigan as well as several other states.
