Come to the PAS program preview event on January 18 from 1-3 p.m. During this afternoon session, you will have a chance to meet with the PAS program assistant director, members of the PAS Admission Committee, Advisor, and current GVSU PAS students. We will be available to answer any of your admission and/or program related questions and will also provide a tour of the facilities used by the PAS program. This event is open to anyone interested in the PAS program.

A documentary showing and panel discussion about invasive species, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, will be held on December 5 from 7-9 p.m. in the Milliken Auditorium. Excerpts from the documentary “Making Waves– Battle for the Great Lakes” will be shown, and four local experts on the issue will come together to share their stories and answer questions from community members. NMC EES Tae Kwon Do Instructor Tania Arens will be teaching self-defense techniques and providing an opportunity to practice on Tuesday, December 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the P.E. Building.
Tania has been studying Tae Kwon Do at NMC since 2007 and obtained the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt in 2015. She has taught under the guidance of Tae Kwon Do instructors Robert Odette and Dough Mehl and is currently the Youth Tae Kwon Do instructor for NMC Extended Education.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. This event is FREE to all NMC Students.

On Saturday, December 1 the NMC Jazz Bands and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert at Milliken Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, and FREE to NMC students with ID.
The groups will be performing an array of swinging jazz standards plus Latin music styles by Count Basie, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Leonard Bernstein, Tito Puente and more.

The annual Walk for Health & Housing begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Great Lakes Campus, Monday November 12 and will continue through downtown Traverse City with speakers addressing various topics along the way. The walk will last approximately two hours. The walk is hosted by Ryan Hannon of Street Outreach, Good Will in collaboration with ENG111, SOC101 & SWK121 classes. The walk helps to raise awareness to the issues of homelessness and food insecurity. Students, faculty, staff and all community members are strongly encouraged to come and participate in this powerful event.

The Freshwater Roundtable is proud to announce the 11th Annual Freshwater Summit to be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hagerty Conference Center at NMC’s Great Lakes Campus. The Freshwater Summit is a conference of environmental professionals and engaged citizens focusing on current issues facing the Great Lakes region.
Presentations include understanding drivers of change in Great Lakes water levels, planning to be a resilient Great Lakes community, and measuring the economic impacts of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
Cost is $35/person or $15/student and includes lunch. Registration is available online here.
The Freshwater Summit is a product of the Freshwater Roundtable and is organized by The Watershed Center, Great Lakes Water Studies Institute, Michigan Sea Grant Extension, Great Lakes Environmental Center, Inland Seas Education Association, NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management and the Grand Traverse Conservation District.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Great Lakes Great Chefs dinner benefiting NMC’s Great Lakes Culinary Institute.
The November 9 evening begins at 6 p.m. with sparkling wine and a raw bar on the Great Lakes Campus catwalk, then moves to Lobdell’s: A Teaching Restaurant for five amazing courses and a spectacular view. Guest chefs working in collaboration with GLCI students include GLCI alumna Brooke Mallory (3030 Ocean), Adam McMarlin (Nine Bean Rows), and Jeff Brandon (Superior Foods).

Proceeds from this event will be used to bring talented chefs and others from the culinary world to the Great Lakes Culinary Institute to teach and work side by side with students.

Please let your students know about this opportunity to discuss transfer requirements and get information on degrees available at a variety of schools without having to travel to each university. Faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage to dialogue with the university representatives as well!
