Join the upcoming Nursing information session on Thursday, April 6 at 5 p.m. in the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center Room 106/107 to learn more about the pathways to a career in nursing. Representatives from Admissions and the Director of Nursing will cover all three nursing program requirements and the ADN application process. Current nursing students will be there for a Q & A and our university partners will also be available to discuss BSN programs.

NMC’s International Affairs Forum continues on Thursday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Milliken Auditorium with a discussion on the evolving dynamics on the Arabian Peninsula, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen and more. IAF will host Ambassador (ret) Greta C. Holtz for this in-person event with livestream available.
Ambassador Holtz served 35 years as a career diplomat with extensive experience in the Middle East region. Holtz served as Senior United States Coordinator for Operation Allies Refuge in Qatar from August-October 2021 and as Chargé d’affaires in Qatar from June 2020 until April 2021. She was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and she was the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor (POLAD) to the Commanding General of U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) from 2017-2019. She served as the United States Ambassador to Oman from 2012 to 2015.
Jack Segal, a former senior U.S. diplomat and former IAF Board co-chair, will moderate the discussion. Segal served in the U.S. Embassy in Israel as counselor for political/military affairs during the first Intifada and the Gulf War. In the Clinton administration, Segal was the National Security Council director for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, and served 10 years as senior political advisor to the NATO Commander where he was responsible for Afghanistan policy. He is an active instructor at NMC Extended Education on a variety of global affairs topics.
The event at Milliken Auditorium is open to the public and will be available to livestream, including a public Q & A. The event includes a welcome reception with appetizers from Food Arabia at 5:30 p.m..

The NMC Soccer Club is hosting a 6-on-6 indoor soccer tournament to raise funds for new goals on Sunday, March 19 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. in the Rajkovich Physical Education Center.
Cost is $10 per person or $50 per team. Individual players and spectators are welcome to attend.

NMC Campus Life will be hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Thursday, March 16, at 7 p.m. This tournament is open to all NMC staff, students, and faculty and will be held in the Rajkovich Physical Education Building.
Rules:
-
- All players must sign a waiver before play.
- Rock/Paper/Scissors To Start.
- One timeout per game.
- Ball must be checked by opposing team player before each possession.
- No more than 3 team members from each team on a court at a time, substitutions can only be done during a stoppage of play.
- Change of possession must begin at top of key (three point line). Ball must be returned to 3-point line in a change of possession following missed basket.
- Self-officiated contests, no free throws. Defense calls the fouls.
- Made shots inside the arc will count as 2 points, outside the arc will count as 3 points.
- No more than 4 persons max on each team. Once on a team, you are on that team for the duration of the tournament.
- No profanity or fighting will be allowed. Student Rights and Responsibilities policies apply.
- Poor sportsmanship will mark with opponent free shot; second leads to disqualification.
- The first team to 21 wins.

- First Place: $25 Gift Card for each team member (maximum of 4 team members)
- Second Place: $10 Gift Card for each team member (maximum of 4 team members)

Are you interested in finding out more about GVSU’s Physician Assistant program? Come to the PA program preview event in Traverse City on Friday, March 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet with the PA program director, the chair of admissions for the PA program, a representative from the College of Health Professions Student Service office and current GVSU PA students. We will answer any of your admission and/or program-related questions and provide a tour of the facilities used by the PA program.
This event is open to anyone interested or curious about the PA program and will be held at the NMC University Center in room UC 09.

Students and community members are invited to the 17th annual NMC Career & Employment Fair, in partnership with Northwest Michigan Works and Networks Northwest. The event will be held on March 2 from 3-6 p.m. (2:30 p.m. opening for veterans). 80 regional businesses will be looking to fill seasonal, part-time, full-time and internship positions, as well as network with the community. Resources will be on site the day of the event to assist with career counseling, veteran services and resumes. Attendees will also be entered to win raffle prizes!

On Wednesday, March 8, International Services and Student Success will host a Holi celebration. Holi is a Hindu festival that originated in India but is now celebrated in different communities all over the world. Holi is a time for people of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate the triumph of good over evil and the new changes that spring brings!
The even will start with a Lunch & Learn from 1-1:30 p.m. in the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center room 106/107. Sarah Montgomery-Richards will give a brief history and overview of the festival. The Hawk Owl Cafe will be preparing tandoori chicken thighs and tandoori braised tofu. Both dishes will be served with lemon-herb basmati rice, Indian spiced root vegetables, grilled naan (bread), and a cucumber-yogurt dipping sauce. Lunch will be provided for free to all who attend the Lunch & Learn session.
The celebration will conclude with traditional color throwing in the Cherry Lot from 1:30-3 p.m. We will listen to Bollywood music, throw colors, and enjoy some time together as a community!

Come play games to celebrate the library’s brand new “Library of Things” collection! Join us in the library on Thursday, March 2 from 6-9 p.m. to try out a new board game or play a familiar favorite. Pizza and drinks will be provided, and all games and other items in the “Library of Things” collection will be available to borrow at the end of the event.
Our newest collection embraces a broader notion of the kinds of resources libraries can steward for their communities. Games, knitting needles and therapy lamps are among the items that will soon be available to borrow, along with specialized equipment related to the college’s academic programs such as a portable audio recorder (Audio Tech) and a cardiac stethoscope (Nursing).
We’d also love to hear from NMC students and employees about “things” they’d like to see added to the collection. Hope to see you there and bring a friend—the more the merrier!

Join the National Writers Series for an evening with Alvin Hall, author of Driving the Green Book. Alvin Hall wrote Driving the Green Book, an account of a 2000-mile journey across the country, using the Green Book as his guide to help him understand the experience of African Americans through the 1960s.
He will be talking about his experience at the City Opera House on Thursday, February 23. Doors open at 6 p.m. with live music and the event starts at 7 p.m. followed by a book signing. The Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has purchased tickets for the event.
