2022 Career Fair graphicThe annual NMC Career & Employment Fair is coming up on Thursday, March 3 from 2–6 p.m. In partnership with Northwest Michigan Works, 60 area employers will be in attendance looking to fill positions.

The fair, at the Hagerty Center on NMC’s Great Lakes Campus, is free and open to students and the public.

Spring Transfer Fair graphicOver 20 university representatives will be on NMC’s campus on Tuesday, March 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to talk with students, staff and faculty about their programs and the transfer process. The university representatives will be Located in: West Hall Innovation Center.

This is your opportunity to discuss transfer requirements and get information on degrees available at a variety of schools without having to travel to each university. Bring your questions and explore your options!

International Affairs Forum to discuss U.S.-China Business Dynamics

IAF logoThe International Affairs Forum at Northwestern Michigan College presents “China: Is Détente Possible” featuring Kenneth Jarrett, Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. Eastern. Jarrett’s 26-year diplomatic career includes postings in Beijing, Chengdu and Singapore. He served as Consul General in Shanghai, and as Deputy Consul General in Hong Kong. In the private sector, Jarrett served five years as president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

Kenneth Jarrett photoJarrett is a frequent commentator on the business environment in China, and he has been quoted in outlets including Bloomberg, the Economist, the Financial Times, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal, among others. In addition to commenting on recent headlines involving China, Jarrett will share his nuanced understanding of Chinese business dynamics and their political underpinnings, illuminated by historical and cultural context.

Kenneth Jarrett will connect from Shanghai. The moderator for this conversation will be Steve Fisher, IAF co-chair and a former executive who worked 15 years in Asia with Korn/Ferry, KPMG and A.T. Kearney.

  • Creating a LinkedIn profile that stands out and gets you noticed
  • Finding and engaging the people that can make all the difference for your job search
  • How to create and amplify your personal brand.

Shapiro is also Director of the Office for Student Success at Touro College in New York City and has more than 18 years of experience working in college administration. The webinar is free for students, staff and community and is funded by an Experiential Learning Grant.

Gaming and Esports Open House

NMC Esports logoThe NMC Gaming and Esports club and varsity program are having an open house in the gaming lab in the West Hall Innovation Center on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 6–8 p.m. All students who come by will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.

‘MLK: A Musical Celebration’ Jan. 17

MLK: A Musical Celebration posterBuilding Bridges with Music presents ‘MLK: A Musical Celebration’ Monday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., featuring the Motown Legends Gospel Choir, a thirteen-piece vocal ensemble with original members of The Miracles and The Contours and special guest saxophonist Laurie Sears performing spirituals, civil rights era songs and some Motown hits. Also featured are the NMC Children’s Choir Cantus and the NMC Chamber Singers under the direction of Jeffrey Cobb, Joe Wilson on dobro and Kevin Larose on tuba.

The City Opera House event is sold out, but a free simulcast will be held at the Dennos Museum Center’s Milliken Auditorium and a free livestream will be available here.

Per NMC campus policy, safety measures at the Milliken Auditorium include masking for all attendees, as well as following any state-mandated guidelines.

This event is part of NMC’s Embrace the Dream celebration of MLK Day and Black History Month.
