{"id":80297,"date":"2022-01-25T10:45:27","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T15:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=80297"},"modified":"2023-11-18T22:31:06","modified_gmt":"2023-11-19T03:31:06","slug":"colleges-strategic-plan-nmc-next-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=80297","title":{"rendered":"College&#8217;s strategic plan, NMC Next, approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TRAVERSE CITY &#8212; Northwestern Michigan College&#8217;s Board of Trustees unanimously&#160;approved a new strategic plan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/strategic-plan\/index.html\">NMC Next<\/a>, which will guide the college through 2025 at its regular meeting Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The vote is the culmination of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/strategic-planning\/index.html\">NMC&#8217;s most comprehensive strategic planning process in decades<\/a>, which began in February 2021 and drew input across all college constituencies. From community to students and trustees to faculty and staff, more than 1,000 participants provided input to the process, including answering surveys, participating in focus groups and feedback sessions and serving on the work team or steering committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The voices and critical insights of the entire NMC community are central to the success of NMC Next, and I&#8217;m so gratified by how generously our many stakeholders have shared their time and talents,&#8221; said President Nick Nissley. &#8220;This data-driven plan positions us to meet the needs of the region, be a community college leader, yet also agile enough to adapt to changing conditions in higher education.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The college now will begin to measure progress on the plan&#8217;s 24 objectives and action items, which fall under five strategic goal areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Future-focused education<\/li>\n<li>Student engagement and success<\/li>\n<li>Diversity, equity and inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Community partnership and engagement<\/li>\n<li>Institutional distinction and sustainability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Jason Slade will oversee the plan implementation. The college has already achieved one objective with the hiring of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=109887\">Marcus Bennett as special assistant<\/a> to the president for diversity, equity and inclusion.
