{"id":78547,"date":"2022-01-05T10:11:38","date_gmt":"2022-01-05T15:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=78547"},"modified":"2022-01-05T10:12:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-05T15:12:05","slug":"flexible-work-policies-and-procedures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=78547","title":{"rendered":"Flexible Work Policies and Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back NMC community,<\/p>\n<p>We hope you had a happy and restful year-end break!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to believe we have been living and working in pandemic conditions for almost two full years. In spring of 2020, we were all forced to try new ways of meeting our student and stakeholder needs. Since then the transformation around the future of work has accelerated and you have found innovative ways to get the job done! While the pandemic continues to evolve, we are beginning to normalize some of the temporary measures we\u2019ve adopted during this time. To reflect these changes, we have updated NMC\u2019s existing flexible work policies (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/about\/policies\/board-staff\/D-757.00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">D-757.00<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/about\/policies\/board-staff\/D-757.01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">D-757-01<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>The policies themselves did not require many changes, but the way we put them into practice has changed considerably. We believe in this fluid environment we need to put more trust in our employees and their direct <span class=\"gmail_default\">supervisor<\/span>s as they are closest to the students and other stakeholders who depend upon their work.<\/p>\n<p>We also believe employees and their <span class=\"gmail_default\">supervisor<\/span>s know what kind of arrangement will support each employee in doing their best work, based on the nature of the work performed and the preferences of the employee. This includes methods of service delivery, work location, and media that are used in getting the job done today. Some experimentation may happen and that is part of our Plan Do Check Adjust culture. If a situation isn\u2019t working, the people closest to it will know it first, and probably know best how to fix it.<\/p>\n<p>The updated policies include a revised \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/employees.nmc.edu\/forms\/human-resources\/policies%20and%20compliance\/Telecommuting_Agreement.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telecommuting Agreement<\/a>.\u201d Any employee who is performing some part of their job remotely should complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/employees.nmc.edu\/forms\/human-resources\/policies%20and%20compliance\/Telecommuting_Agreement.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cTelecommuting Agreement\u201d <\/a>and send it to their supervisor for approval, then on to their executive and HR for record-keeping purposes. <span class=\"gmail_default\">Supervisors<\/span>, please work with your team members to get these forms completed, fully signed and to HR by January 31, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The uncertainty of the last two years has presented us with many challenges, but it has also allowed us to innovate, which is a long standing NMC value.
