{"id":5924,"date":"2013-08-13T11:35:32","date_gmt":"2013-08-13T15:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=5924"},"modified":"2013-08-16T11:37:39","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T15:37:39","slug":"benefits-corner-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=5924","title":{"rendered":"Benefits corner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What does \u201cReasonable and Customary\u201d mean in relation to your health care?\u00a0 Why do you see this term in relation to what you are being charged for your health and dental services?\u00a0 According to About.com, <b><i>\u201c<\/i><\/b><b><i>A reasonable and customary fee is the amount that your health plan determines is the normal range of payment for a specific health-related service or medical procedure within a given geographic area. If the charges you (or your doctor) submit to your health plan are higher than what the health plan considers normal for the covered service, then your health plan may not allow the full amount charged to you.\u201d<\/i><\/b><b> <\/b>\u00a0As this applies to NMC\u2019s medical and dental plans, you may have to pay an additional amount based on the reasonable and customary fee.\u00a0 For example, if the reasonable and customary fee for a medical procedure is $150 and your doctor charges $200, you may have to pay the additional $50.\u00a0 Our medical plan would pay for the $150 according to whichever plan you are in and whether or not you have met your deductible, but most likely your doctor would send you a bill which includes the remaining $50 that our plan did not approve.<\/p>\n<p>This is another reason that using the Priority Health network providers will benefit you.\u00a0 The network providers have agreed with Priority Health to pay a set amount for a specific procedure.\u00a0 This set amount should be at or below the reasonable and customary fee, which means you will get a discount as well as not have to pay additional costs if your doctor charges them.\u00a0 To find a network provider, log into your Member Account at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorityhealth.com\">www.priorityhealth.com<\/a> and click on \u201cFind a Doctor\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about this or other NMC benefits, please contact HR at 995-1362 or 995-1025.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learning more about using the Priority Health network providers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[68],"tags":[1439,60,1296],"class_list":["post-5924","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-intercom","tag-benefits-corner","tag-human-resources","tag-priority-health"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
