Ghattas knows the factors that have shaped the modern Middle East, and her vast experience provides deep insight into American foreign relations.<\/p>\n<p>As the BBC&#8217;s US State Department correspondent, Ghattas travelled regularly with Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry. Her front row seat to the making of American foreign policy led her to write the book, <em>The Secretary: A Journey with Hillary Clinton from Beirut to the Heart of American Power<\/em>, which became a New York Times bestseller. The book includes personal reflections about being a child in war-torn Lebanon, growing up with questions about America.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2020, Kim Ghattas released her new book, <em>Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the Forty-Year Rivalry That Unraveled Culture, Religion, and Collective Memory in the Middle East<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ghattas will join IAF live via Zoom from Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Register at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/resources\/iaf\/iaf-2020-11-19-event-registration.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/resources\/iaf\/iaf-2020-11-19-event-registration.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605104571529000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEBYJmlRzkJ5Am8XrIdGimoAGfvuQ\">nmc.edu\/resources\/<wbr \/>iaf\/iaf-2020-11-19-event-<wbr \/>registration.html<\/a>.
