It was first held in 2000 and is now celebrated in more than 100 countries around the world.\u00a0<a title=\"(link opens new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/eca.state.gov\/programs-initiatives\/international-education-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more\u00a0\u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>NMC\u2019s 2019 commemoration of International Education Week is Nov. 18-21 and includes three days of global food and music, a guided museum tour, talks from former Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet, and more!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: Global Flavors Days and Tunes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">International Club members and Sodexo have developed a special menu. Let your senses experience tastes, smells, and sounds from afar.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Monday: <\/strong>Morocco<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuesday: <\/strong>Italy<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday:<\/strong>\u00a0India<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">11 a.m.-1 p.m., Hawk Owl Caf\u00e9, Oleson Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday:\u00a0 Dennos Museum Tour<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Come enjoy a guided tour of the museum\u2019s unique Inuit art collection featuring key pieces and bringing a spotlight onto the Canadian Arctic region and way of life as well as Carole Harris\u2019s current exhibition <em>Art Quilts<\/em>. \u00a0Throughout <em>Art Quilts, <\/em>you will see how Harris extends the boundaries of traditional quilting by exploring other forms of stitchery, irregular shapes, textures, materials, and objects.\u00a0 While there, view the artistic impact of \u00a0natural\u00a0 and constructed environments from her personal travels to Europe, China, Japan, and the Caribbean. Free to students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">12:15-12:50 p.m., Tour will meet at the front desk of the Dennos Museum<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday: <\/strong><strong>Study Abroad Photo Contest Reveal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Winner\u2019s photos will be on display in the front lobby of the library.\u00a0 Stop by the NMC Study Abroad table to hear about the benefits and impact of abroad experiences and learn about the opportunities for the Spring of 2020. Each year NMC sends approximately 60 students abroad. \u00a0Find out the next steps to take to be one of them!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">12:30-2 p.m., Osterlin Library, main lobby<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday: <em>What\u2019s Up World?!<\/em> <em>Civil Disobedience<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">International Club will facilitate this month\u2019s featured discussion topic of civil disobedience&#8211; what it is, it\u2019s impact and looking at examples in our current world.\u00a0 Meet the active members of International Club. Learn how you can be a part of this student organization whose mission is to build bridges and friendships among different cultures.\u00a0 <strong><em>What\u2019s Up World?!<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0is a monthly student-led talk series that investigates current global topics.\u00a0 Join us for complimentary snacks in a living room setting and enjoy enlightening conversation.\u00a0 No prior knowledge on the topics is required.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">8:30-9:45 p.m., East Hall Lower Study Lounge<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday: Global Literature Group: <em>Blue Label <\/em>by Eduardo Sanchez Rugeles (Venezuela)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The NMC Global Literature Reading Group meets twice a year to discuss a book about the life in another culture. The group aims to bring together NMC faculty and staff from all departments and disciplines to stimulate critical thinking, literary pleasure, awareness of global diversity, and cultural interconnections. You can get this semester\u2019s featured book for $5 in the Osterlin Library.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Noon-1 p.m., Scholars Hall 103<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday:\u00a0 Passport to the Peace Corps with former Director of the Peace Corp, Carrie Hessler-Radelet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">If you\u2019ve ever been just a little bit curious about the Peace Corps then join Carrie as she speaks specifically to students about the continued relevancy and impact of the Peace Corps and humanitarian work on individuals and the world.\u00a0\u00a0 She will share pivotal stories and provide takeaways for those curious in this commitment through service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">12:15-1 p.m., Scholars Hall 109, Auditorium<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday: International Affairs Forum: \u00a0Engaging For Good:\u00a0 Can One Individual Volunteer Change the World? with Carrie Hessler-Radelet, Former Director of the Peace Corps <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In the face of significant political, humanitarian and developmental challenges around the world, how can a single volunteer or humanitarian hope to make a difference?\u00a0 Carrie Hessler-Radelet, returns to her native northern Michigan to tell stories from her four decades of humanitarian service.\u00a0 Join us for a very inspiring evening of possibilities.\u00a0 This is a community-wide event.\u00a0 Tickets are <em>free<\/em> to students and educators with a school ID.
