For freshman students, a key indicator of future enrollment patterns, NMC outpaced the national trend with 4.7 percent growth. Nationwide, community colleges reported a 1.2 percent increase in freshmen enrollment, according to the <a data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/nscresearchcenter.org\/stay-informed\/\" href=\"https:\/\/nscresearchcenter.org\/stay-informed\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(link opens new window)\">National Student Clearinghouse Research Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is boots on the ground, hard work by the admissions team and is also tied to our marketing efforts,&#8221; Vice President for Strategic Initiatives <strong>Jason Slade<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A Great Lakes Culinary Institute Sports Nutrition program student at a Detroit Red Wings training camp\" class=\"AlignImageRight\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ba118ee60a0a00b836839d84b46a3dfdglci-red-wings-camp-2024-1.jpg\" width=\"300\" \/><span class=\"AlignCaptionRight\">The Detroit Red Wings training camp held in Traverse City offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/programs\/academic-programs\/culinary-arts\/sports-performance-nutrition-certificate.html\">sports performance nutrition<\/a> students a chance to practice their skills.<\/span>Gains were especially strong in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/programs\/academic-programs\/culinary-arts\/index.html\">NMC&#8217;s culinary program<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/resources\/water-studies\/index.html\">Water Studies Institute<\/a>, and among <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/landing\/adult-students.html\">students 21 and older<\/a>. Culinary and Water Studies have both introduced new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/programs\/academic-programs\/culinary-arts\/sports-performance-nutrition-certificate.html\">certificates<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/programs\/academic-programs\/wet-tech\/index.html\">degrees<\/a> in the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>Also, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/landing\/adult-students.html\">Michigan Reconnect<\/a>, which offers free tuition to in-district students (Grand Traverse County residents) who don&#8217;t have a college degree, was expanded to include students 21 and up last year. It was originally set at 25 in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The result of the Reconnect expansion is reason to believe that another state program, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/admissions\/high-school-services\/community-college-guarantee.html\">Community College Guarantee<\/a> for high school graduates, will soon yield enrollment increases. Many students had already made plans for the 2024&#8211;25 school year when the Community College Guarantee was announced in July. As awareness increases, NMC expects more students to choose to take advantage of the program, which offers free tuition and fees to in-district students (Grand Traverse County residents).<\/p>\n<p>NMC also offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/admissions\/launchpad\/quick-start.html\">Quick Start<\/a>, a drop-in event for prospective students, once each month.
