{"id":14911,"date":"2015-11-30T11:43:36","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T16:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=14911"},"modified":"2015-11-30T16:39:57","modified_gmt":"2015-11-30T21:39:57","slug":"board-of-trustees-recap-november-23-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=14911","title":{"rendered":"Board of Trustees recap- November 23, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting Monday, November 23,\u00a02015.<\/p>\n<p>Details on the actions items and reports are contained in the Board Packet<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/about\/board-of-trustees\/agendas\/2015\/112315-Regular-Board-Meeting.pdf\"> available online<\/a>.<!--more--><span id=\"more-14399\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A full video of the meeting is available here:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ghge_u5zm0c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NMC Board of Trustees met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the Oleson Center. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Trustees heard a report on plans for a new major for the BSMT, the Power Systems Program major from Stephen Siciliano and Jerry Achenbach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board learned more about the recent visit to the Yellow River Conservancy by Marguerite Cotto, Chris Weber, Ed Bailey and Hans VanSumeren.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vicki Cook gave a report on sensitive information which showed no incidents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Board heard regular reports on enrollment, financials, policy committee, ACCT 2015 Leadership conference, the NMC Foundation, legislative issues, the president and the board chair. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board heard public input from the following people:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jonathan Patterson spoke about his student experience at NMC and the UC<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dance instructor Dorothy Eisenstein spoke about upcoming events and support of the arts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instructor Susan Odgers spoke her role on a panel related to housing issues and accessibility<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instructor Jerry Cannon spoke about innovation at NMC<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attorney Marcelo Betti spoke about his experience as an NMC and UC student \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trustees approved the consent items which included the minutes from the October meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board approved the following action items:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Power systems Major of the BSMT<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harbor consultant contract with K&amp;L Gates<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMC Foundation bylaws<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMC\/NMC Foundation MOU<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Board policies on NMC Mission and Vision<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Board then entered into closed session with legal counsel for updates on collective bargaining. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting Monday, November 23,\u00a02015.
