The exhibition was organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA) with guest curator Geary Jones who invited a group of \u201cmajor\u201d artists from around of the world and then enhanced that core show with a jury-selected body of work. The result, Extreme Fibers, features 136 artworks by 79 artists representing 25 States from the U.S., as well as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Norway, Peru, Poland, Taiwan, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The artworks in this exhibit reveal the diversity of the fine art textile and fiber movement, and its transformation into a multi-media and discipline-spanning phenomenon. The invited artists for this exhibition are visionaries in the field: Luis Acosta, Kyoung Ae Cho, Kate Anderson, Ewa Bartosz-Mazus, Lia Cook, Thomas Cronenberg, Nancy Crow, Patricia Hickman, Jan Hopkins, Wolfgang Horn, Ferne Jacobs, David Johnson, Gerhardt Knodel, Gy\u00f6ngy Laky, Maximo Laura, Tom Lundberg, Libby Mijanovich, Laura Foster Nicholson, Krystyna Sadej, Arturo Alonzo Sandoval, Chizu Sekiguchi, Sherri Smith, Ixchel Suarez, Yoshiko Wada, Dawn Walden, Carole Waller, and Bhakti Ziek. Joining these masters is a slate of artists selected from juried submissions received from countries around the world. Narrowing from a field of over 300 entries, jurors Ferne Jacobs and Namita Gupta Wiggers selected 79 works from 51 artists for inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers will find tapestries, quilts, weavings, sculpture, basketry, and a host of other forms on display, from functional works to fully abstracted shapes. \u201cWe are pleased to work with the Muskegon Museum of Art to bring this exhibition to the Dennos,\u201d says Eugene Jenneman, Executive Director of the Dennos Museum Center, \u201cThis is a remarkable opportunity for the Grand Traverse region to see truly contemporary, international artwork by artists that defined and continue to transform a major art movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In association with the installation of this exhibition the Dennos Museum Store will offer an exhibition and sale entitled Extreme Fiber Fashions December 11 \u2013 13. (See addendum release below)<\/p>\n<p>The Dennos Museum Center is open Monday to Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM, Thursday until 8 PM and Sunday\u2019s 1-5 PM. This sale of wearable art is being presented by the Dennos Museum Center Store in association with the installation of Extreme Fibers: Textile Icons and the New Edge the next exhibition opening at the Dennos December 13, 2015. The sale will open Friday, December 11 at 10 am and continue through Sunday, December 13, 5pm, in the Museum Sculpture Court.<\/p>\n<p>Extreme Fiber Fashions features the work of fiber artists Karin Fish \u2013 Eco dyed scarves and felting, Cheryl Heator \u2013 Crochet fashions, Linda Kustra \u2013 Hand knit fashions, Betsy Meyer \u2013 Wire knit jewelry, Krystal Ann Miller \u2013 Fabric Bags, Nancy Monteith \u2013 Fiber jewelry, Terry O\u2019Toole \u2013 Hand woven scarves, Carol Salerno \u2013 Weaving, Violet Star Clothing and fiber artists from the Northland Weavers &amp; Fiber Arts Guild.
