{"id":13483,"date":"2015-08-31T14:36:42","date_gmt":"2015-08-31T18:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=13483"},"modified":"2015-08-31T14:36:42","modified_gmt":"2015-08-31T18:36:42","slug":"board-of-trustees-recap-august-24-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=13483","title":{"rendered":"Board of Trustees recap- August 24, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting, Monday, August 24,\u00a02015.<span id=\"more-10775\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Details on the actions items and reports are contained in the Board Packet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.edu\/about\/board-of-trustees\/agendas\/2015\/082415-board-regular-pg.pdf\">available online.<\/a><span id=\"more-12899\"><\/span><span id=\"more-11383\"><\/span><span id=\"more-11561\"><\/span><span id=\"more-12181\"><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A full video of the meeting is available here:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JbsiFVDDjlk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NMC Board of Trustees met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at the Great Lakes Campus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trustees heard about upcoming anniversary celebrations for NMC&#8217;s University Center (20 years) and the Dennos Museum Center (25 years.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trustees heard an update on enrollment which shows positive growth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President Nelson reported on legislative issues including updates on the potential nursing baccalaureate and performance funding formula review. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his President&#8217;s update, Nelson said the college has chosen consulting firm Kelley Cawthorne for a six month contract to help lobby for capital outlay projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the public input period the board heard from Lisa Blackford supporting housing initiatives for students and Mella McCormick supporting the speaker at opening conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board authorized the purchase of a new tractor for $51,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board agreed to enter into agreements for the New Jobs Training Program with the following companies: Cadillac Rubber and Plastics, Cherry Capital Foods,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electro-Optics Technology, Elmer&#8217;s Crane and Dozer and Northwest Michigan Surgical Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board had a closed session for updates on collective bargaining<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting, Monday, August 24,\u00a02015.
