Fast Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n

– All paving on US-31 from Holiday Road to Three Mile Road in East Bay Township is now complete, with all lanes opening to traffic this afternoon, more than two weeks ahead of schedule.<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Crews still need to install permanent pavement markings on the new roadway; painting is expected to occur early next week, weather dependent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

– MDOT and contractor Team Elmer\u2019s will return to resurface US-31 from Holiday Road to the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme after Labor Day. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

June 11, 2015<\/span> <\/strong>\u2013 The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and contractor Team Elmer\u2019s today announced that all lanes of US-31 in East Bay Township will open this afternoon, with reconstruction of this busy corridor complete more than two weeks ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew from the planning stages of this badly needed project that construction would cause some inconvenience for motorists, residents, businesses and their customers in this busy corridor, so we worked with Elmer\u2019s to minimize those effects as much as possible,\u201d said Rick Liptak, MDOT\u2019s Traverse City Transportation Service Center (TSC) manager. \u201cThrough the hard work and meticulous coordination of Team Elmer\u2019s, we\u2019re so pleased that we can reopen this road fully as the summer tourism season ramps up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Permanent pavement markings still need to be installed on the new roadway. Crews will return to the site next week for pavement markings, but that work will not require lane closures.<\/p>\n

MDOT and Team Elmer\u2019s will return after Labor Day to resurface US-31 from Holiday Road to north of the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme. That project will require lane closures and traffic shifts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public, businesses and residents have been so patient through this project, and we can\u2019t thank them enough. We\u2019re thrilled to have the road open two weeks ahead of schedule,\u201d said Nick Broad, project manager for Team Elmer\u2019s. \u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to returning this fall to resurface US-31 along the bay, and improving this gateway to the Traverse City area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reconstruction portion of the project between Holiday and Three Mile roads included removal of all concrete and asphalt pavements, utility and drainage work, new concrete curb and gutters, and installation of continuous sidewalks on both sides of the highway.<\/p>\n
