The following document is your guide to setting up printers using the printing tools and resources available at NMC.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>NMC recently underwent a campus-wide update of printing resources which included (among other things) renaming all of the printers. This was done for several reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To make locating printers and devices easier.<\/li>\n<li>To make adding these printers and devices to your work PC simpler.<\/li>\n<li>To eliminate confusion by making Windows and Banner printer names match.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This new naming convention was designed to include as much data as concisely as possible. \u00a0Each printer name now indicates the location of the printer (building and room number), the manufacturer of the printer (HP or Kyocera Mita (KM)), as well as its color capabilities. The following printers illustrate these different aspects of the naming convention:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>JB214-HP-CLR<\/strong> &#8211; This printer is in<strong> JB214,<\/strong> made by <strong>HP<\/strong>, and is a color printer (indicated by the <strong>CLR<\/strong> at the end).<\/li>\n<li><strong>JB214-HP<\/strong> &#8211; This printer is also in <strong>JB214<\/strong>, is also made by <strong>HP<\/strong>, but is NOT a color printer (as indicated by the lack of <strong>CLR<\/strong> on the end)<\/li>\n<li><strong>UC112C-KM-CLR<\/strong> &#8211; This printer is located in <strong>UC112C<\/strong>, is a <strong>K<\/strong>yocera <strong>M<\/strong>ita, and is also a color printer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Generally speaking, if it has HP in its name, it is usually just a printer, whereas if it has KM in the name, it is likely a multifunction machine (printer\/scanner\/copier). \u00a0Although &#8211; as with any rule &#8211; there are some exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selecting\/Adding a Printer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After verifying the printer you desire to print to is not present in your printer list, complete the following.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the Start button and select Devices and Printers<\/li>\n<li>Select Add a Printer<\/li>\n<li>Select Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer (as shown in the screenshot below)<\/li>\n<li>Select the Network Printer you wish to add from the populated menu (If the print device you wish to print to is not listed, please contact the helpdesk)<\/li>\n<li>Select Next. \u00a0This will install the print driver for the selected printer.<\/li>\n<li>Print a test page to make sure that your printer was successfully added.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11893 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/printer2-1024x649.png\" alt=\"printer2\" width=\"658\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/printer2-1024x649.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/printer2-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/printer2-600x380.png 600w, https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/printer2-1080x684.png 1080w, https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/printer2.png 1184w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 658px) 100vw, 658px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> In order to print a test page attempt one of the following actions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Ctrl-P &#8211; Shortcut Key for most software products<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>File, Print &#8211; In Microsoft Office Products<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you have additional questions, contact Technology Help Desk at 995-3020 or www.nmc.edu\/help<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banner Printing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the most part, Banner printing is the same as printing in Windows, but there are a few additions that you should be aware of. \u00a0In addition to the naming convention described above, there are also key function indicators at the end of the printer name.
