{"id":1115,"date":"2012-04-05T10:05:39","date_gmt":"2012-04-05T15:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=1115"},"modified":"2012-04-05T10:05:39","modified_gmt":"2012-04-05T15:05:39","slug":"iaf-rebuilding-the-rule-of-law-in-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nmc.edu\/?p=1115","title":{"rendered":"IAF: Rebuilding the Rule of Law in Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former Iraqi ambassador to the United Nations and one of the key figures in Iraq over the past decade, Feisal Amin Rasoul Istrabadi, will speak on &#8220;Rebuilding the Rule of Law in Iraq&#8221; at an International Affairs Forum lecture at 6 p.m. April 19 in Milliken Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Istrabadi is presently the founding director of the Indiana University Center for the Study of the Middle East. He is also University Scholar in International Law and Diplomacy, with his academic appointment in the Maurer School of Law.<\/p>\n<p>From 2004-2007 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Deputy Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations. He also was principal legal drafter of the Iraqi interim constitution of 2004. Based on his experiences in post-2003 Iraq, he focuses his research on constitutional issues, problems in engendering rule-of-law institutions, and post-conflict justice issues in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Before contributing to the reconstruction of Iraq, he was a practicing trial lawyer in the United States for 15 years,<\/p>\n<p>The program begins with a reception in the Sculpture Court of the Dennos Museum Center at 5:15 p.m. and is followed at 6 p.m. by the lecture and a discussion period in Milliken Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Individual lecture ticket are $10. All current educators and students are admitted free.
