Kudos to Tom Gordon for his presentation for the History Center of Traverse City on Northern Michigan in World War II. His presentation featured Tom’s interview with Olin Benedict, a B-24 Liberator pilot, who described his experiences as an aviator in the war. Tom’s presentation was a great opportunity to hear from one of our WW2 veterans and to have the interview recorded to preserve this important story of our history. It is such a great opportunity for our community to be able to hear these stories first hand.

Kudos to Heather Robinson, Amy Burns,Dan Goodchild, Devan Depauw, Chris Regier, Jeremey Root, Jess Polus who organized and participated in the Building Tomorrow event at the APL building April 21-23 NMC and industry representatives partnered in this three-day event to raise awareness of opportunities in construction field. Over 350 regional high school students attend the event.

Kudos to Teresa Scollon in Communications for her compassionate and caring approach with students. Recently a student felt strongly that she should should be allowed to skip her first-year writing courses and register for Creative Writing. After providing a writing sample, Teresa determined that the student’s experience in Creative Writing would be much enhanced by following the required course sequence. Teresa conveyed the message to to the student in such an eloquent and sincere manner that the student agreed and was satisfied with the outcome.

Kudos to Aircraft Maintenance Personnel:  I would like to give a tip of the hat to Director of Aircraft Maintenance Ed Borstel and his crew: Tom Dunn, Sam Rowan and Derek Quick. These gentlemen do an exceptional job keeping our aircraft maintained in top condition. Ed and his crew work very hard to keep the aircraft up to date with required maintenance inspections and get them back up flying again for students to keep on training in their flight courses. There are many times when they would stay after hours to complete an inspection or repair to keep the aircraft in service so students and instructors can complete their lessons. Much appreciated! Thank you guys for all that you do!

Kudos to Jeff Cobb for great leadership, support of and communication with music department faculty and students. Kudos also for being an outstanding and versatile musician in all he does at NMC.
