Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting Monday, January 25, 2016, at the Oleson Center.

The NMC Board of Trustees met for the regularly scheduled meeting January 25, 2016 at the Oleson Center.

The Board agreed to a new slate of officers with Kennard Weaver serving as Chair, Steve Rawlings as Vice Chair, Ross Childs as Secretary and Bob Brick as Treasurer.

Trustees recognized Tina Ulrich as employee of the semester for her work in open educational resources and laptop lending.

Brian Heffner gave a presentation on the Law Enforcement Academy. On its 30th anniversary the program has graduated about 600 students. The board later approved a recommendation to begin a new law enforcement certificate.  

The board approved a recommendation to use Cornerstone Architects to design the new student housing development based on their experience, competitive fee, understanding of the need.  

The board heard regular updates on classification and compensation, enrollment, and financials.

The Board approved a recommendation to nominate Charles Judson as an NMC Fellow.  

In public comment the following people addressed the board:

Steve Drake on the change in NMC during his time at the college and the impact.

Dierdre Mahoney on a NMC journalism class trip to Flint to cover the water crisis.

The board approved the consent items.

Trustees approved the housing rates.

The board also approved a special liquor license for the Taste of Success event.
