Active duty military personnel and their families can enjoy free admission to the Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College all summer long thanks to Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts; Blue Star Families, a non-profit organization supporting military families; and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Blue Star Museums is a nationwide effort to offer free museum admission to active duty members of all U.S. military service branches, including National Guard and Reserves. The Dennos Museum Center is one of more than 2,000 museums participating nationally from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

“The Dennos Museum Center is pleased to offer this small gesture of appreciation to military families for their service and sacrifice,” said Executive Director Gene Jenneman. “In addition to our family-oriented hands-on Discovery Gallery for children of all ages and our renowned Inuit art collection, two new exhibitions are on display May 31 – September 6, 2015. Perimeter: A Contemporary Portrait of Lake Michigan and Sideways: Exploring Skateboard Art + Culture are exhibitions for families to enjoy together at The Dennos throughout the summer.”

To take advantage of the Blue Star Museums program, active duty personnel need only present valid military identification at the visitor desk of The Dennos at the time of their visit. Up to five family members may also receive free admission. Free admission is valid for general admission to the Museum’s exhibition galleries during regular business hours but excludes special ticketed events.
