SAAWDuring the month of April, the Student Life office, along with Residence Life, will be holding a Sexual Assault Awareness Week (S.A.A.W.). There will be events throughout the week focused on raising awareness around sexual misconduct, specifically on college campuses. This is the first year that NMC will be holding a week of events during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This week will offer unique opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

The events during the week of April 6 through April 10 are as follows:

Tuesday, 4/07
Student Life and Residence Life will be tabling with information on the Campus SaVE Act and S.A.A.W. in the Welcome Center from 10-2pm and in the cafeteria from 12-2pm.

Wednesday, 4/08
There will be a “Stoplight Party” in the basement of East Hall. This event focuses on what is a healthy relationship, what are red flags to look out for in a relationship, how to be an effective bystander and how to stay safe at social events. This event is for all students, not just for those who live in East Hall.

Thursday, 4/09
The film “It Happened Here,” will be shown in the auditorium in Scholars Hall. The documentary follows five c ollege students and their personal experiences with campus assault. The film explores the impact that assault has on college student victims, their families, school personnel and the college/universities. A candlelight vigil will be held following the film. The vigil will be in honor of the many students who have experienced sexual misconduct on campus. After the vigil their will be snacks and refreshments served for those who would like to continue conversation around sexual misconduct and/or or personally share their own experience.
