Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting, Monday, December 15, 2014.

At the meeting trustees:

  • Approved three new members to the NMC Foundation Board: Suzanne Allen, Kevin Schuelter and Susan K. Sheldon; and

    seven reappointments: Michael Ascione, Christopher Branson, Bruce Byl, Diane Emling, Francis Gingras, Harlan Peterson and Timothy Young. All will serve three-year terms. Three individuals were also appointed emeritus members for life: Barbara Smith, Gail Nugent and Terry Lobdell.

  • Approved submission of an application for a 2 percent grant from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
  • Approved resolutions of appreciation for outgoing trustees Susan K. Sheldon and William Myers, whose terms end Dec. 31.
  • Heard reports on alternative energy programs and usage by the college. Wind and solar energy generated at the University Center and Aero Park campuses reduce NMC’s net energy costs.
  • Heard reports on enrollment for spring semester, finances and the status of the compensation/classification implementation. All are progressing consistent with expectations.

The next Board of Trustees meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. January 25, 2015, in the Oleson Center on main campus.
